Spring Cleaning Your Face

That's right-- your face.  Remember, if your makeup is dirty your face is dirty.  And a dirty face doesn't exactly welcome many kisses.  Nor does it fit with that fresh, "I-just-went-on-spring-break" glow that we all want to radiate this time of year.  In fact, slacking off on cleaning your powder brush is basically asking the little bacteria to infest your pores and give you that dirty-faced look.  Is there such a look?  I think so.  Here are some spring cleaning steps that most women forget:   

1. This mascara-could-scare-a ______.  Did you like that?  I don't know what it would scare, but I really wanted to say that beginning part.   Anyways -- look at that dirty cap.  The old, dried out mascara is stuck to the threading of the top, preventing the top from twisting down all the way.  Not only does this make your mascara dry out 5x faster, but it also welcomes all of the little bacteria.
2. Wet-wipe that wand.  Soap and water is too harsh for your mascara wand.  Instead, use an antibacterial wet-wipe to wipe down the wand, removing any clumps, hairs, and bugs (I hope not).  Don't forget to clean the skinny part of the wand, too!
5. Clear up your compacts.  Compacts look so cute & shiny... for about 2 days.  Then powder starts to cloud up the mirror, the outside becomes covered in scratches, and it no longer looks cute coming out of your purse.   Heck, maybe your mirror is even cracked.  But hey, I'm not superstitious.  Use windex on the mirror and a scrubby sponge to clean the outside. (P.S. PLEASE replace any sponges).
3. Scrub those brushes.  Do this 2x a month.  Take a pea-size amount of shampoo in your hand, get your brush wet with warm water, and swirl.  Rinse, swirl, and repeat until the water is clear.  When drying, lean them vertically against a wall, upside down with the bristles on top of a towel.  This will prevent water from weakening the glue that holds the bristles in place.
4. Clean up your concealer (a.k.a. bacteria breeding ground).  This is one that most people ignore.   But, this is what you apply to your skin to cover up blemishes.  Simply put-- it's a pimple-trap.  Therefore, it should be the cleanest product we own! Use rubbing alcohol on a cotton swabs-- it will dissolve any oils.
6. Machine wash warm... your make-up case!  So many girls let their makeup case start to look like the floor of their grandpa's truck.  Know what I mean?  Dirty, sticky, messy, and full of things you forgot you had.  Machine washing is the best way to get a squeaky clean case (only if your case is canvas, cotton, or vinyl).
